No one wants to be sweating while sitting in their own home. With temperatures on the rise, it’s the perfect time to discuss how we can keep the summer heat outdoors while keeping our homes nice and comfortable.

Who doesn’t want to save some money on our energy bills as well? Here are some super “cool” tips that we can do to keep energy bills down low and our families comfort up!

Our Top 7 “Cool” Tips

  1. Wifi thermostats are a life saver when it comes to those pesky energy bills.
Our favorite feature of these thermostats would be the ability to pre-set your homes temperatures on a schedule. You can save as much as 10% a year on your energy bill by quickly turning your thermostat back 7-10 degrees for 6-8 hours a day.
  2. AC Maintenance matters
Performing general maintenance on your AC unit isn’t the most fun activity, but on hot days, you’ll be glad you did. If you have a window unit, a good suggestion is to take a peek at the outer seal. We are trying to keep the heat outside, not let it sneak indoors. Any uncommon noises, water leaks from condensation, and equipment vibrations are all signs that you might need to call in the professionals.
  3. As the outside temperature rises, Keep the temperature in your home down
When I think of summer, I think of a good cookout. Burgers, ribs, yummm…. This is also a great way to keep the temperature down in your home. Avoiding the oven and stove will prevent unnecessary heat from entering your home. If you do need to cook indoors, a good suggestion would be to use a toaster oven or microwave when you can.
  4. Remember Your Air Filters
We strongly recommend changing your air filter every 30 days. Clogged air filters can cause many different issues, including reduced airflow, contaminates building up in your duct work, and it can cause the HVAC equipment to work harder. When our AC unit works harder, it increases your home’s energy usage and your monthly electric bill payments. Simply changing your air filter every 30 days can reduce energy usage by 5 to 15 percent.
  5. Prevent an untimely breakdown
Scheduling professional maintenance during the warmer months will help your system run efficiently, lower energy bills, and reduce the likelihood of breakdowns on hot summer days. A well-trained technician will find and fix minor problems within your air conditioning system before they turn into major issues. Annual preventative maintenance will also help extend the life of your unit.
  6. Lighting makes a difference
Install lighting that does not put off a ton of heat. According to the US Department Of Energy only about 10% to 15% of the electricity that incandescent lights consume results in light, the rest is turned into heat. Purchasing Energy Star lighting products is a quick way to cut out those unnecessary heat sources.
  7. Keep the heat out
Drawing the curtains or closing the blinds is a smart way to keep your house cool and save energy during the day. Sunlight coming in through windows will raise the internal temperature of the home, causing your AC unit to work twice as hard.Purchasing blackout curtains is a quick fix for blocking out the sun and heat.

We hope you find these tips helpful for tackling the warm sunny days ahead. As always, our technicians here at 919FixMyAc will be here to help you in any way we can!
